St. Louis Zoo Trip
I visited the Elephant exhibit at River's Edge. The elephant exhibit was large, and included a waterfall/lake that the elephants could drink from and bathe in. I saw two Asian Elephants in the amount of time I was observing. The elephants were very large and a light gray color. They were spread out from each other. One elephant was sucking up water in his trunk and spraying himself with it in order to stay cool during the heat of the day.
Elephant Taxonomy:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Proboscidae
Family: Elephantidae
I visited the Sea Lion exhibit at Lakeside Crossing. This exhibit was very unique, in that I viewed it from underwater. My group walked through a glasPhoto by Sarah Riffle/Saint Louis Zoo " src="http://www.stlzoo.org/files/cache/d14f5f0ef71c9949b3f2e46ada73ef55.jpg" width=500 height=372>s tunnel that was submerged in the sea lion's habitat, and had the opportunity to see their swimming antics up close. They were a creamy brown color, and had whiskers on their face. They were about the size of a medium-sized dog. The sea lions twisted and dove through the water, making flying leaps out of the surface.

Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Otariidae
I visited the Penguins in The Wild. Their habitat was in an enclosed building, and the temperature noticibly dropped when we entered the exhibit. The penguins were perched on rocks above the chilled water that several were swimming in. My favorite penguins were the Emperor Penguins. They were large, black and white with yellow detailing.
Penguin Taxonomy:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Ciconiiformes
Family: Spheniscidae
I'm really glad that we got to visit the zoo. I hadn't been since I was a kid, and had forgotten how marvelous some of the animlas are. I learned a lot and had a great time!
